A legacy built on trust
The business opened its doors in 1880 when Vicente Lillo arrived in Valencia from his native Torrevieja (Alicante). A shipowner and experienced captain, he owned a sailboat he used to ship salt from the Torrevieja salt flats to Algeria, around the Mediterranean, Cuba and other ports across Latin America.
His eldest son, Vicente Lillo Jr., followed in his footsteps and founded Lillo Hnos. alongside his siblings. The company had warehouses and offices in the JJ Domine area and worked in the produce sector, selling vegetables from a stall in Valencia market. Later, one of the brothers sat the entrance exam for the Customs and Excise Service and was assigned to Customs House in BARCELONA. The other brother stayed in Valencia and continued in ship consignment at the customs agency. His company was named Vicente y Antonio Lillo.
Antonio was a founding board member of the Association of Customs Agents alongside his brother Vicente. Antonio was killed on 5th January 1920, leaving Vicente as the head of the business. Upon Vicente’s death, the business initially changed its name to Vdas. De Vicente y Antonio Lillo and then later to Manuel Lillo Aduanas. Vicente Garay Lillo was already working at the company at this point, which would continue under the new business name of GARAY LILLO ADUANAS until the present day. The current firm is run by Vicente Garay Lillo’s children with Ignacio Garay Lillo working as a Customs Agent.
